Tutor One Child, Change Two Lives
alpcharlotte.orgThe Augustine Literacy Project uses the Orton-Gillingham approach and ALP curriculum. Orton-Gillingham is a multi-sensory, explicit, systematic approach to reading instruction that has been effective with students who struggle with literacy for a variety of reasons.
Augustine tutors receive training during a three-day training class. Tutors commit to work with students two times each week for two semesters. ALP provided ongoing support and coaching to tutors.

Helping Education

Advancing learning outcomes for learners of all ages.
https://helpingeducation.org/Helping Education offers evidence-based programs and services that are designed to support educators, families, and community organizations to meaningfully advance learning outcomes for students of all ages.
Through the HELPS (Helping Early Literacy with Practice Strategies) tutoring program, Helping Education provides reading fluency support to students who receive free/reduced lunch and/or are performing below adequate reading levels.
HELPS is an evidence-based tutoring intervention proven to improve students' reading fluency – one of five essential skills a student must acquire to become a successful reader. The highly scripted program requires no lesson planning in advance and can easily be delivered by trained volunteers.
Students receive individual, research-based instruction three to four times a week for fifteen to thirty minutes a day. By providing two students with one-on-one, half-hour-long tutoring sessions every week, tutors build strong relationships and witness reading progress quickly with their students.
Summer and Fall 2024 virtual tutors are needed! Can you join us for an hour a week from June 25 – August 15? Summer 2024 tutoring sessions are Tuesdays through Thursdays, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Fall 2024 tutoring sessions will be held during school hours on Mondays through Thursdays (specific times TBD).
To tutor, volunteers will: pass a school district background check, participate in a training session of their choosing, commit to a regular hour of tutoring with their students each week, and make an impact on their learners’ confidence and literacy skills.

Heart Math Tutoring
-
We’ve developed a formula for tutoring success, and it includes you.
heartmathtutoring.orgHeart Math Tutoring is a nonprofit that connects volunteers with students who are behind in elementary math and need foundational skills and confidence! Heart works with schools to determine students that would benefit from math support and mentorship, and who may not have access to resources such as private tutoring. Heart then pairs students with a tutor for 1 hour per week. Heart provides training, a fun game-based curriculum, and a staff person present at all times for support. Tutoring begins in early October and goes through the end of April. Tutors work with the same student all year helping them build basic math skills (counting through single digit multiplication) and confidence! Both virtual and in-person tutors are needed! Read FAQs here.
Contact: Daisha Delano, Tutor Operations Manager
Requirements: Tutors attend two 1-hour small group trainings and commit to 1 hour of tutoring per week (either two 30-minute sessions or 1 full hour). Virtual tutors must have a computer or tablet to connect with students. Volunteers must be 18 years old and pass a CMS background check.
