ADAM JOHNSON, Executive Director of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Transportation
After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill, majoring in public relations with a minor in Spanish, Mr. Johnson started his school transportation career in 1996, driving a school bus in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to put himself through college. Mr. Johnson worked up to an assistant foreman role before moving to Moore County Schools and then Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as an area transportation specialist.At age 29, Mr. Johnson accepted the Director of Transportation role for Union County Schools and held the position from 2006 until 2013. During this time, Mr. Johnson achieved national certification from The National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) as a Certified Director of Pupil Transportation.
Mr. Johnson began a new chapter in school transportation, working as a sales consultant for Gregory Poole Equipment in Mebane, North Carolina, selling Blue Bird School Buses from 2013 – 2018.
In 2018, Mr. Johnson returned to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as Executive Director of Transportation, overseeing a department budget of $77 million, 1,300 employees, and transportation services for 104,000 students.
