Parent and Family Luncheon

Come and join us for yet another Parent & Family engagement event of the 2024-2025 school year.

On Wednesday, March 26th, parents/guardians are encouraged to have lunch with their WMS students. It was such a great turnout during the fall, we wanted to extend the invite for families to do it once more.  During this time, families can bring lunch and enjoy an afternoon of great food and special family bonding. We will also have a fun activity for families to do together in time for spring!

Please keep in mind, each grade level eats at a different time. See the grade-level lunch schedules below. WMS will not provide or cater lunch. Families are welcome to bring in a meal to share with their students, or they can get their school lunch from the school cafeteria. Limited craft supplies and refreshments will be provided.

The Exceptional Children Department will host the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Resource Fair at East Mecklenburg High School on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 10:00am to 2:00 p.m. The purpose of the Resource Fair is to inform parents, students and educators of the many services and supports available for persons with disabilities in Mecklenburg County and North Carolina.

The Resource Fair will include:

• Community agencies will display information and answer questions regarding support and services available to students and adults with disabilities.

• Post-Secondary options

• Parent Sessions: (10:30am: -1:30pm)

• Refreshments and desserts will be served.

As we move forward into this quickly approaching spring season, we want to remind our scholars and families of the importance of coming to school every day, on time, and prepared to learn. Daily attendance is key to academic success, and every moment in the classroom counts!  We are in the final stretch of the 3rd quarter, with only 20 days left until it ends. Spring Break is just 29 days away, and End-of-Year testing is only 51 days from now. Let’s finish this quarter strong by staying focused, engaged, and committed to excellence.

Progress reports go home this Wednesday, March 5th. Please check your scholar's grades and help them keep track on any missed work.

7th Grade Chromebook Collection

Starting March 10th, all 7th grade scholars will NOT take their Chromebooks home for the remainder of the school year. Scholars will report to homeroom at the end of the day to turn in Chromebooks. Scholars will pick up their Chromebooks in the morning during homeroom. If homework is assigned it will be on paper. This will allow us enough time to collect fees for broken devices, lost chagers, or lost devices; and to ensure we have enough Chromebooks  for daily instruction and End of the Year Testing.

• Thursday: Feb 27-Soul Train Day: Travel back through time, wear your favorite 60’s, 70’s or 80’s fashions.

• Friday: Feb 28- Black Out Day: Wear all black attire to represent unity of all the freedom and protest throughout history in all cultures.

Parents, we need your help. Moving forward, scholars will not be allowed to bring cupcakes or treats to pass out during the school day. This also includes store brought items. PTA Valentine Candy-Gram Sales

The WMS PTA will be sponsoring a Valentine’s Day Candy-Gram fundraiser! Show your love and appreciation by sending someone special, a friend, teacher, family member or staff member a sweet gesture. WMS families can purchase a pack of Nerd Cluster candies and valentine note for $1.00. We will be selling candy-grams during each lunch block this Monday, February 10th to February 13th. Valentine Candy Grams will be delivered to students during their 4th block on Friday, February 14th. Payments include cash, card or tap to pay. This event is ONLY for Whitewater Middle students. Students can dress to impress in casual red and pink attire. Formal wear is not necessary to come out and party. Tickets are on sale online starting tomorrow and will be sold in person at school starting the week of February 3rd. Tickets are $10 per student and can be made in cash, card or tap to pay. Rising Course Registration

We have reached that time of year where we start preparing our 6th grade students for 7th grade for course class registration. We are preparing out 7th grade students for 8th grade course registration.  This week all All 6th and 7th grade students have met with Ms. Tatum and Ms. Davenport to the elective offerings for the 25-26 school year and students were able to chose their selections based off what interests they have. 6th grade student received a blue registration card and 7th grade students received a green registration card. Please be sure to ask your student for the card, to review together to make your final selections. 6th grade students have until Monday, Feb. 3rd to complete and turn in their card and 7th grade students have until Tuesday, February 4th. If your student was absent on the day the presentation was conducted please reach out to Ms. Tatum or Ms. Davenport to receive your student's registration card as class registration starts on Tuesday February 4th.  If there are any questions or concerns about our course registration please contact the school.

Thank you for your support during testing! Winter testing is extremely important because it will help us to do a pulse check to see the progress we are making towards our academic goals. We are determined to ensure your scholar continues to receive high quality instruction.  We will continue to offer make-up tests for Math and ELA Benchmarks on Monday and Tuesday. We have until Feb. 5th to complete I-Ready make-ups. Scholars will be able to take their chromebooks home today. Please make sure that you are paying your fees if your scholars have damaged or lost a chromebook. Unpaid fees will prevent scholars from participating in End of Year grade level activities and field trips.  Scholars should bring their chromebooks and chargers to school everyday.  We will conduct a chromebook inventory in the Spring, so we can make sure we have enough devices for end of year testing. Can immigration officials review student records? 
FERPA and state laws protect student education records and personal information. This includes federal immigration officers. Generally, schools must get written consent from parents / guardians before releasing student information. • If immigration officials request access to records, these should only be allowed if the officer has a valid court order or subpoena in compliance with FERPA. 
Registration Update

This year CMS SIS (Student Information System) will transition from PowerSchool to Infinite Campus. In order to ensure a smooth transition CMS and Whitewater Middle School will begin our registration process earlier than in previous years. All registrations will take place online via the Student Dashboard in PowerSchool. As we begin the registration process, course cards with descriptions of all courses will go home with scholars the week of Jan. 27, 2025! Our counselors will push into classrooms and provide students with information and there will be a “Registration Site” forthcoming where you and your scholar can make the informed decisions necessary for a successful 2025-26 school year. Code of Conduct Reminder - Theft

As we return to school, we know many scholars may have received valuable gifts during the holidays, such as BEATS headphones and other high-priced items. While we understand the excitement of sharing these gifts, we strongly recommend that students refrain from bringing expensive belongings to school.
Please remember that the school is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Although we take measures to ensure the security of personal belongings—such as teachers locking classrooms when unattended—it is ultimately the students’ responsibility to keep their items safe. Additionally, students must respect their peers' belongings and avoid tampering with others’ property.
Theft is a serious matter. If a student is caught stealing, they will face significant consequences per the school’s Code of Conduct. Theft is also a criminal offense, and families may choose to press charges. In some cases, parents may also be held liable.
We ask that you remind your child to take precautions with their belongings and reinforce the importance of honesty and respect. If your child comes home with an item you didn’t purchase or that doesn’t belong to them, please ask questions and notify the school immediately.

Thank you for supporting our Student Government Association with our Gators Give Back collections.  We exceeded the collection goal because of your generosity. Ms. Ross' homeroom won the pizza party because they collected over 150 gloves.

Last year, Whitewater Middle School sent 3 scholars to the Regional Science Fair, where they competed among other students across various counties. Last year we had over 150 projects submitted and we are looking to double that number. The Science Fair is open to all 6th, 7th, 8th grade scholars.

7th and 8th grade Scholars ONLY

Basketball Workouts: 

Basketball workouts will be held on October 28th and October 30th after school until 6:00PM.  Sports physicals must be submitted before attending workouts. 

Basketball Tryout Information:

• Boys Basketball tryouts will be held November 12th-14th. 

• All physicals and Dragonfly forms must be completed before tryouts no exemption.  Dragonfly Online Registration:

All forms are now digital. All forms MUST be completed and submitted digitally to try-out. To register for sports you must use (Dragonfly) click HERE to fill out paperwork. Please choose ALL the sports that you think your child will play this year so that you will have to fill the forms out one time. All forms must be completed online, apart from the physical/examination form. The physical exam form must be given to your doctor to complete. Once the doctor has  completed the form, you may hand deliver, or submit on dragonfly, or email to Athletic Director (Derwin Calhoun) before registration closes on NOV. 6th.

Parents and Caregivers, Thank you for ensuring that your scholar came to school on testing days. We made it to 95% by Thursday. We will continue make-up testing this week, until we make our goal of 100% participation.  You will receive benchmark reports with your scholar's report cards  November 19th.

Saturday Robotics
Wednesday is the last day to register your scholar for the Saturday Robotics program. Transportation is not provided. We are excited to offer a new STEM focused opportunity to our scholars. We are partnering with 100 Men to host a 6 week Robotics Prorgam at Whitewater Middle School. We only have 20 slots and transportation is not provided.  The Lego Robotics WORKSHOP will be HELD ON SATURDAYS 1-3PM . DATES: 11/2, 11/16, 12/7, 12/14, 1/11, 1/25

The program will conclude with a Competition and Showcase!

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, PLEASE SIGN UP AND SUBMIT APPLICATION BY OCTOBER 30th. The application is attached to this message. If you can not print the packet, please respond to this message and we will send home a packet with your scholar. 

No Outside Food
Parents please remember, NO outside food is allowed for scholars from 8:30 AM - 4:15PM. This includes food that is dropped off by parents. Alos, remember that we have a strict policy against door dash and any food delivery services. They are not allowed under any circumstances. Food received will be donated to our wonderful staff. All food dropped off by parents must be in a lunch bag or box and must NOT be in any restaurant food packaging. 


Science Fair
Whitewater Middle School will host our annual Science Fair on December 11th and now it is time for our scholars to begin preparation. Last year, Whitewater Middle School sent 3 scholars to the Regional Science Fair, where they competed among other students across various counties. Last year we had over 150 projects submitted and we are looking to double that number. The Science Fair is open to all 6th, 7th, 8th grade scholars. 

All scholars that participate in Science Fair will earn 

• Ticket to a Pizza Party with Principal Ward.

• Credit Boost of 10 points

• Extra Credit to go towards your Science Grade

***The Science Block that has the most participation will get a personlized fun event for their class. (Taki Time and Tech!)

Attendance Matter - School Wide Attendance Challenge

7th and 8th grade Scholars ONLY

Basketball Workouts: 

Basketball workouts will be held on October 28th and October 30th after school until 6:00PM.  Sports physicals must be submitted before attending workouts. 

Basketball Tryout Information:

• Girls Basketball tryouts will be held November 6th-8th.

• Boys Basketball tryouts will be held November 12th-14th. 

All physicals and Dragonfly forms must be completed before tryouts no exemption. 

 Dragonfly Online Registration:

All forms are now digital. All forms MUST be completed and submitted digitally to try-out. To register for sports you must use (Dragonfly) click HERE to fill out paperwork. Please choose ALL the sports that you think your child will play this year so that you will have to fill the forms out one time. All forms must be completed online, apart from the physical/examination form. The physical exam form must be given to your doctor to complete. Once the doctor has  completed the form, you may hand deliver, or submit on dragonfly, or email to Athletic Director (Derwin Calhoun) before registration closes on NOV. 6th.

All scholars and visitors have to go through the Evolv scanner daily. This year the district has asked parents to find an alternate option other than metal 3 ring binders. If your scholar still uses a 3-ring binder, we will ask them to remove binders and chromeooks before passing through the scanners.  Scholars can also keep the binders at home.

Parents/Guardians we need your help.  The biggest areas of concern are the crop shirts, slides, thigh ripped jeans, short-shorts and biker/spandex shorts. These are not allowed. Our teachers and scholars are working extremely hard to ensure top tier learning is taking place everyday and in everyclass. All scholars who were present on Friday and returned their forms recieved their Chromebook. Remember scholars can not take home chromebooks until the form is signed. Homecoming 2024 Week Update & Events:

Starting next Monday, September 23rd, WMS will host it’s homecoming week. WMS students will have the opportunity to participate in all homecoming activities, homecoming royal court, spirit week,  pep-rally and the homecoming dance. All homecoming event payments should be sent via cashapp to $whitewaterpta. Please indicate in the subject box what event your student is partaking in (homecoming court application, homecoming dance or both) and your students first and last name. Any homecoming week questions or concerns, please contact AD Calhoun or Ms. Caldwell.

Homecoming Court: Homecoming court applications were distributed last week for those students who were interested. Students interested have until this Wednesday, September 18th to complete an application, submit their $5 application fee and campaign. Applications can be turned into AD Calhoun or Ms. Caldwell.

Homecoming Game/Pep-rally: On Tuesday September 24th, our football team will take on Wilson at 5:00pm. The pep-rally will take place during school. We will have food trucks, community partners and apparel sales on site at the game. The homecoming court winners will be announced during the homecoming game. No students will be allowed to attend the game without being accompanied by an adult 21 years old or older.

Spirit Week: To celebrate students are encouraged to participate in our weeklong spirit week activities. Please see flyer below with the daily themes. The WMS and CMS dress code will be enforced and students found in violation of the dress code will be asked to change and or placed in ISS for violating the dress code policy.

Homecoming Dance: The Homecoming Dance will be held on Thursday, September 26th in the WMS Gymnasium from 6-8pm. The theme is “Back to the 90’s.” This is a Whitewater student only event, non WMS students and parents/guardians are not allowed in the building. Requirements include no ISS or OSS in order for students to attend. Tickets are $10 per student and will go on sale starting tomorrow during lunch and will end on September 24th. Dress attire is 90’s encouraged, CMS dress code will be enforced. Snack bags and drinks will be available for purchase at the dance.

Registration for the Robotics program is CLOSED. We had over 45 students registered but we can only take 30. The other students will be placed on a waiting list. Invites and waiting list notifications will be sent home by Wednesday.

Whitewater Middle School is partnering with Queen City Robotics to host a 8 week Robotics club from Sept - November. This program will be held once a week on Thursday from 4:30PM to 5:30PM. OPEN HOUSE
We are so excited to welcome you back for the 2024-2025 school year.
