Parent information

  • Agendas

All students are required to have a Crestdale Middle School agenda throughout the school year. This will help students with organization during the year, and allow for communication between school and home. All students will receive an agenda as part of their mandatory student fee. We encourage parents to monitor this tool daily to assist with homework completion and assessment preparation. Student agendas also contain Crestdale expectations and policies. Please refer to the beginning pages of this important tool and review them with your child so that Crestdale to help ensure a successful school year.

    Annual Notice

At the beginning of each academic year, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is required to provide students and their parents with certain annual notices.  Please open the attached documents for links to information concerning various topics, including the Student Code of Conduct, non-discrimination, bullying, and various health-related topics.

    Clubs

We offer 50+ clubs for student to join. On Friday's students have the opportunity to engage in the club of their choice for 30 minutes.  These clubs connect student interest with extracurricular experiences and develop leadership skills. Clubs are student-focused and led by a faculty member.

    Communication

Communication is very important at Crestdale Middle School. We want to make sure you are aware of what is taking place at the school and, more importantly, hope that you take the opportunity to be involved in everything possible. Complete the Back to School packet during the first week of school so your information can be entered into our ConnectEd phone and email messaging system. Also, do not hesitate to contact your child's teachers for any questions or concerns that you have regarding their classes, or our school's principal, Ms. Schroeder, about any questions, suggestions or concerns that you have throughout the year. This year we have implemented Parent Square for communication. The teachers, school, and athletics will use it as a form of communication to parents.

    Crime Stoppers

The Crestdale Campus Crime Stoppers is a unique program that encourages students to get involved to keep their school safe. This program is a joint effort between Charlotte-Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers, Inc., the Matthews Police Department, Crestdale Middle School, and the community of Matthews to decrease the threat of violence, illegal drugs, weapons, and other dangerous activity from the school campus. All students are encouraged to report any activity to our school's Resource Officer, or any staff member.

    Early Release Days

Each year, CMS includes four Early Release Days into the school calendar. On these days, students will be released at 1pm to allow for vital staff development opportunities.

    Items Forgotten at Home

If a forgotten item is brought in from home for a student, it may be dropped off at a table located in front of the Main Office. The item should be labeled clearly with your child's name. Students will only be called to pick up items at the end of the day. If your child forgot something (i.e. lunch, homework, PE uniform) please remind them to check the front desk on their way to lunch.

    PowerSchool

Parental involvement is critical to a child’s education. That’s why CMS has provided a user-friendly Web application to help parents and families become more involved in education. Parents are able to check their child’s homework assignments, attendance reports and grades from any computer, any time. Parents will be able to set up their own accounts with access information provided by the school. Students may also set up their own account to view their grades. Account access letters are sent home at the start or every school year and are available upon request. Use the links below to learn more and to access this Portal:

    School Hours

Our school hours at Crestdale Middle school are from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. Students may arrive on campus at 8:30 am, but not sooner without an appointment for tutoring with a teacher. Classes begin promptly at 9:00 am, and students who are not in class at that time will be marked tardy. It is very important that our students arrive to school on time each day so that instructional time is not missed.

    TSI-AT School

Crestdale Middle School has been designated as a Targeted Support & Improvement Additional Targeted Support (TSI-AT) school by the North Carolina State Board of Education. As stated in ESSA Section 1111(d)(2), North Carolina had to identify schools for targeted support and improvement. TSI-AT schools in North Carolina are those that have a subgroup that is under-performing. The intent of this opportunity is to improve educational outcomes for all students, close achievement gaps, increase equity, and improve the quality of instruction.

The following document outlines Crestdale's comprehensive plan that specifically addresses how the school will improve student achievement.

    Tutoring

Each of our teachers offers tutoring weekly either before or after school. The 2020-2021 Tutorial Schedule displays each teacher's time and day of the week that it is offered. This is a great tool for your child to use to get the individual help that they need from their teacher when they are having difficulty in class. If your child is attending a morning tutoring session, please ensure that they have a pass in their agenda so they are allowed into the building prior to 8:30 a.m. All tutoring is offered in the individual teacher's classroom.

Tutoring is not offered Wednesday mornings.

    Volunteering

We have many volunteer opportunities here at Crestdale! Please visit our PTO website for specific areas. It is important to know that all CMS volunteers must be registered through the district's website. Click HERE to get started!
