The model of an early college is to ‘front load’ high school graduation requirements into 9th and 10th grade so that students can begin taking college coursework in their area of interest as soon as possible. Traditionally, this will happen at some point during the 10th grade year. Please remember that this is our first year open, and we have students coming from many different backgrounds. This first semester’s schedule will look a little bit more like a traditional high school schedule as we work to get everyone their graduation requirements. To match the college schedule, our classes are all semester long; as a result, we are focusing on scheduling for the fall semester right now.
Rising 11th graders: I have had the pleasure of meeting with almost all of our rising 11th graders and their parents. In the fall, our 11th graders will take 2-4 high school classes in the fall, depending on the credits they have earned so far. Many of them will take 1-2 college classes in the fall as well, and they have received instructions on how to register for those if they need to.
Rising 10th graders: The majority of our 10th graders will take 4 high school classes in the fall, and then have room in their schedule during the spring semester to begin college coursework. This means that at this time, you don’t need to complete any course registration, since you will be scheduled in your high school required classes for the fall. A few 10th graders who will have completed Math 3 or higher by the end of 9th grade were emailed this week with instructions on registering for their math class. If this applies to you, please make sure you’ve read the email from me and reach out with questions. We will begin meeting in September and October along with CP personnel to plan and register for your Spring 2024 classes.
Rising 9th graders: The majority of our 9th graders will take 4 high school classes in the fall, and 2-4 high school classes in the spring, depending on their incoming credits. All of our 9th graders will take Health and PE classes through CPCC to meet the Health and PE graduation requirement. I will register students for those classes, so no action is needed on your part at this time.
