RE: JCHS Attendance Recovery November 7, 2022

    Dear Cougar Families,

Attendance Recovery will begin on Thursday, November 10, 2022, from 2:20 p.m-4:00 p.m. and will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and designated Saturdays from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

A student in grades 9-12 missing 11 or more class sessions for any reason other than a principal-

approved absence will receive a grade of “F” (59%) for the course based on CMS Regulation JHBB-R. Any student who has missed more than the allotted days in a single class period, will need to recover the time missed for that class.

Students must attend Attendance Recovery for a minimum of 45 minutes to recover one class period. If a student is present for the entire 90 minutes of Attendance Recovery, then the student will have recovered time for two class periods. Please note that the time is based on class periods and not on the number of days missed.

Scholars that are attending Attendance Recovery should not be on the bus lot after school, or in front of the school after dismissal. Students will meet promptly in the cafeteria after school at 2:20 p.m. and they will be dismissed to the bus parking lot area for pick-up, promptly at 4:00 p.m. to meet their rides. Parents are responsible for ensuring that their scholar has a ride home each day. Julius L. Chambers High School will not be providing transportation for this program.

The expectation for Attendance Recovery is that students will be on time and attend the program with a charged Chromebook, assignments, and an attendance recovery form from their teacher. Cell phone usage in not permitted during attendance recovery.

The Attendance Recovery Facilitators may assign student work assignments to scholars attending the recovery program if students do not have work assignments. The CMS Student Code of Conduct will apply to all students participating in attendance recovery after school. Students may lose their privileges to attend the program for non-compliance.

Once a student has fulfilled the attendance recovery requirements (class attendance is back at 10 days or below), parents will be notified, and an Attendance Appeal form must be submitted to the Attendance Review Committee. The committee will review all the student documentation for absences within 10 days of submission and render a decision to the student and parent.

Information for the CMS Attendance Policy can be found here and on pages 18-19 in the CMS Student Code of Conduct handbook.. Other pertinent information regarding Julius L. Chambers Attendance
