    How to access a CMS Chromebook on your home WiFi

    1. Connect to your home Wi-Fi 

    2. Log in to the Chromebook user name: StudentID@student.cms.k12.nc.us password: your Chrome password 

    3. Once you enter the first website, you will encounter the filtering process. Type in your user name: StudentID@cms.k12.nc.us

    4. Last screen of credentials type in your: user name: StudentID@cms.k12.nc.us password: YYYYMMDD (8 digit birthdate) Example: 2012 Aug. 01 (20120801)

    Logging into Canvas on a Chromebook

    1. Click on the top left CMS Bookmarks

    2. Canvas

    3. Click Login with Google.

    4. Type studentid# and Go

    5. Type (first time to log in type YYYYMMDD).

    iPad won’t charge

    Follow these steps:

    • Make sure to use the power adapter and cable that comes with the iPad.
    • Check your charging cable and USB adapter for signs of damage, like breakage or bent prongs.* Don't use damaged accessories.
    • Remove any debris from the charging port on the bottom of your iPad, then firmly plug your charging cable into your iPad. 
    • Let your iPad charge for a half hour.

     

     

    Force a restart: 

    • Hold down the button at the top right of the iPad until you see "slide to power off" and power off. 

    • Let your iPad charge for another half hour.

     
    Only use original iPad power adapter and cable.
     
     

    Clear the cache on Chromebook

    Clearing the cache on the Chromebook can resolve some audio issues. To clear the cache, do this:

    1. Click on the chrome setting button called the ellipsis in the browser in the top right corner (it looks like three horizontal lines or 3 vertical dots.)
    2. Click on Tools or More Tools and then clear the browsing Data, 
    3. Select Advanced
    4. Specify clear information 'From the beginning of time'.
    5. The option 'Empty the Cache' is related to sound troubleshooting.
    6. Click 'Clear Browsing Data'
    7. Turn the Chromebook off and then on again and try the sound.

     

    Troubleshoot Camera, Mic, and Speakers on a Chromebook. Zoom Mic/ Audio 


    • Keep Chromebook updated: Click lower right corner, settings gear, About Chrome OS lower left side, update, and restart.

     

    Raise and lower your microphone or speaker volume.

    1. Click on the status area (bottom right corner of the screen where you see your time).

    2. Change the speaker volume to the desired level by adjusting the slider, left or right.

    3. Change your mic level by clicking on the arrow next to the volume slider.

    4. A window will pop up that shows input and output. Under Input, move the mic slider to your desired level.


     

    ZOOM MICROPHONE AND AUDIO SETTINGS


    While in a Zoom meeting, click on the up arrow next to the MIC icon. The Settings should be as follows:

    • Choose same as System (Default - Internal Mic)

    • You should always use an internal mic unless you have a microphone connected (BT or Wired).

    • i.e. Wireless headsets or AirPods (check to see if they are muted)

    Adjust Zoom settings to correct the microphone being too loud

    If the receiving end thinks your microphone is too loud you can adjust the zoom setting to disable "Automatically adjust microphone volume" and manually control it.

    • Open Zoom on your Chromebook.

    • Click on the Gear icon within Zoom. 

    • Click on the Audio tab.

    • Uncheck “Automatically adjust microphone volume”.  

    • You can then adjust the mic volume manually as shown in the hardware troubleshooting steps above.
