Terra Kennedy

Welcome to Harper Middle College High School! I am honored to serve as principal of this innovative, comprehensive high school on the Harper Campus of Central Piedmont Community College in southwest Charlotte. At Harper, we provide a unique educational experience for students in grades 11, 12, and 13. Students experience high school and college-level coursework to help prepare them for future academic and career goals. Admission is based on entrance requirements and a lottery application process through the CMS School Choice program.

I bring 26 years of experience in education to this role, having served as a teacher, academy coordinator, assistant principal, principal, and executive director within Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Each of these roles has shaped my educational philosophy and commitment to fostering student success. My experiences have reinforced my belief in the power of high standards and the importance of empowering every individual to reach their full potential. 

At Harper, we believe in building empowering relationships with students and offering challenging academic opportunities in a respectful, safe, and positive high school and community college environment. These guiding principles align closely with my own values as an educator and leader.

Throughout my journey, I have strived to inspire students to achieve at the highest levels by igniting a passion for learning and equipping them with the tools they need to succeed. My ultimate goal is to ensure every Harper graduate leaves our school with options, including further education, career pathways, or other aspirations.

I look forward to working alongside our students, staff, and families as we continue to uphold the mission of Harper Middle College High School and create a supportive, dynamic environment where every student can thrive.
