With gratitude, I thank Charlotte-Mecklenburg School leadership for appointing me as the next Jay M. Robinson Middle School Principal. I have worked at Jay M. Robinson Middle School just shy of six years and look to continue our traditions, culture, and high expectations for many years to come. It is my desire to continue to grow the current vision of daily excellence through academics, clubs, sports, and other extracurricular activities. As leader, I look to continue our rigorous academic traditions within all content areas, especially math, reading, and electives. Our staff will tailor their expertise to meet your child’s individual needs through the best educational practices. Children will also experience stimulating opportunities to develop communicative and critical thinking skills. In addition, JMR will offer a supportive environment that allows middle school students to identify and develop their passions. Finally, a JMR education will support students to become better citizens on and off our campus. Every child deserves excellence. Our staff will continue to provide a supportive environment for all students to thrive well during and after their middle school experience. A strong partnership between home and school is vital for each child’s education. Don’t be shy! Please join our PTA and/or reach out for other volunteer opportunities. We are always looking for volunteers to help with JMR traditions like Go for the Gold, testing proctors, or other small tasks like making paper copies. Keep an eye out in the Charger Chatter for opportunities. Our staff is ready and willing to help support your child’s unique needs. Please feel free to reach out to your student’s teachers, school counselor, or any other staff member for support. Our staff wants the best for your family and look forward to your family reaching out! Professionally, I grew up outside of Cleveland, Ohio and attended Bowling Green State University. I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I landed in Charlotte because the city would be the easiest to drive back home to Ohio. I taught six years at Sterling Elementary and Hawk Ridge Elementary. I sought and earned my National Board Certification in Middle Childhood Literacy during my teaching years. I transitioned to Bruns Academy within Project LIFT for two years as a Technology Facilitator specializing in the One Laptop per Child initiative. I facilitated robotic camps and earned my first masters degree in Instructional Technology at North Carolina State University while at Bruns Academy. I spent two and a half years working as an Instructional Technology Specialist within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Central Office. My time also was spent earning my second masters degree in Educational Leadership at Queen's University and interned at Ballantyne Elementary School. Upon graduation, I transitioned into a Dean of Students position and eventually into an Assistant Principal at Jay M. Robinson Middle School for just under six years between both positions. Personally, my family and colleagues' support throughout my life is what propelled me into the proud position of Jay M. Robinson Middle School Principal. I have been happily married to my husband for 14 years. We have two middle school aged children, Max and Quinn. Our family is also blessed with a Scout (golden retriever) and Penny (shepherd mix). In my spare time, I enjoy kayaking on Lake Wylie with Max, watching Quinn’s soccer games, playing card games like Pinochle, and completing home improvement projects with my husband. We frequently travel and enjoy spending time with our extended family in South Carolina, Ohio, and Germany. Thank you for choosing Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and Jay M. Robinson Middle School. Our staff looks forward to your family partnership and serving your child beyond their expectations.

All the best, Rebecca Thompson, Principal
