Assistance League of Charlotte
The Assistance League of Charlotte is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families through community-based philanthropic programs.
Operation School BellFor the 2017-2018 school year, WES will participate in Operation School Bell. This Assistance League program provides basic new school clothing and books to children in need. Selected scholars will participate in a field trip to the Assistance League Center to shop for uniforms and shoes to ensure they have adequate clothing to wear to school
Blessings in a Backpack
Winterfield has a partnership with the students at Charlotte Latin. The students provide snack bags for scholars to take home on Fridays. The Bear Scholars selected to participate in Blessings in a Backpack have been recommended by a staff member.
Communities in Schools (CIS)
The mission of Communities In Schools (CIS) is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. As the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization, Communities In Schools is helping build a stronger local community where every child is capable of reaching his or her greatest potential. An affiliate of the national Communities In Schools network, CIS of Charlotte-Mecklenburg serves over 6,000 students annually in 43 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools that have some of the greatest needs but the fewest resources. Through full time school-based Site and Program Coordinators, CIS connects students and their families to the relationships and resources they need to be successful. The scope of CIS-Charlotte’s current programming includes school-based dropout prevention (grades PK-12); college access and career readiness; support for teen mothers balancing the challenges of childcare and high school graduation; and working with youthful offenders to continue their education.
Latin American Women’s Association Partnership
Padres Y Padrinos
The goal of Padres y Padrinos is to support the academic and social development of Latino students. This comprehensive and culturally sensitive program has three components: 1) Weekly tutoring for students to increase academic performance, 2) Parenting sessions to engage Latino parents with their children’s school and community, 3) Dancing for Diversity an inter-cultural activity to build self-confidence, trust, and understanding among students of all backgrounds. http://www.lawanc.org/
Winterfield Neighborhood Association
The Winterfield Neighborhood Association works to improve the quality of life in the Winterfield Neighborhood. From the Garden Buds to special events , The Winterfield Neighborhood Association partners with our school in a wide variety of ways.
