Elizabeth Traditional Elementary is a public CMS school that was established as one of Charlotte's first elementary schools in the year 1912. The school's building structures, name, and curriculum have been altered over the years to meet the various demands of a diverse and ever-shifting population. One quality of the school and its staff has remained constant: our commitment to a solid educational foundation for all students. We has an active partnership with Central Piedmont Community College, the Augustine Project, Queens University, Heart Math, and many local businesses in the Elizabeth community. We offer a variety of learning and leadership opportunities during the school day and through our before and after-school activities, including soccer club soccer clubs, Girls on the Run, and Let Me Run.
Elizabeth Traditional implements Leader in Me program and achieved Lighthouse Status in the 2020-2021 school year. This means our school has earned the highest level of program implementation with the Leader in Me School program! You can learn more about being a LIM Lighthouse School by clicking this link. Our magnet theme enhancement incorporates Stephen Covey's "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" in the K-5 curriculum. Students experience academic goal-setting and learn leadership skills through our Leader in Me curriculum. We were also named a Lighthouse School this past year.
ETES is located in the Elizabeth neighborhood at the intersection of Park Drive, East 5th Street, and Travis Avenue, and backs up to Independence Park. It is near Presbyterian Hospital, with the Uptown Charlotte skyline in clear view and in close proximity. The location of the school has been significant in its historical beginnings. All staff at our school are devoted to providing the best education and opportunities to our students!
