Principal Dowdy brings a wealth of experience and passion for education, most recently serving as the principal of Elon Park Elementary since January 2017. For our long-time Cougar families, you may recognize her from her previous role as Assistant Principal at Beverly Woods for five years. Mrs. Dowdy has over two decades of experience in CMS serving as a fourth and fifth grade classroom teacher, literacy facilitator, assistant principal and principal.  

A proud CMS graduate, Mrs. Dowdy holds a degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Winthrop University. With her deep roots in our community and proven leadership, we are confident she will continue to build on the strong foundation of our school.

As a parent and educator, Ms. Dowdy is committed to the success of Carmel and CMS schools.  As a mom to rising high school freshman twins she enjoys being active and involved in school community events.  Mrs. Dowdy is active with her family - playing tennis, pickleball, kayaking, paddle boarding and hiking.  

The culture of Carmel is rich in tradition, and it is our strong sense of family and community support that truly makes us special. We are excited to welcome Principal Dowdy and look forward to the fresh ideas and new chapter she will bring to our school!
