Dr. Travares Hicks
Welcome to Julius Chambers High School, where everyday is a great day to be a Cougar! As the newly appointed principal of Julius Chambers High School, I want to express what an honor and privilege it is to have the opportunity to serve such a remarkable school community and represent the late great Mr. Julius Chambers. Mr. Chambers worked to end discrimination in schools and employment. In his honor, we want to continue his legacy by collaborating with you, your students, community members and our staff to foster a strong sense of Cougar Pride in order to increase students’ academic achievement and social-emotional growth. By working together, I know we can demonstrate that JCHS is a school in which every child has a place by being provided access to an equitable education and is challenged with a rigorous educational program and has the opportunity to maximize their greatness.
It's no secret that Julius Chambers High School has experienced its share of celebrations and challenges over the years from winning state championships, meeting academic growth to transient leadership and becoming a low performing school.
Despite what can be read or even heard...greatness is on the campus of Julius Chambers High School. We are committed to #CHANGINGTHENARRATIVE.
Our theme for the 2023-2024 school year is "Raising the Bar" and our new motto is "Commitment to Excellence.”
In alignment with the CMS Goals and Guardrails, our work this year will be focused in three areas:
-
Academic/Engagement Excellence
-
People Excellence
-
Operational Excellence
Our faculty, staff, and administration are focused on providing a quality learning experience for all students rooted in CMS’s core academic actions. Our teachers will provide relevant, grade level/engaging content while building strong relationships with all students and families. Our staff is also committed to providing strong structures and transparent systems of accountability and communication.
Our partnership with our families, alumni, and greater community is an integral part of the success of Julius Chambers High School. We encourage you to become involved, whether through our Parent-Teacher Student Association (PTSA), Booster Clubs, School Improvement Team (SIT), or one of the many committees or support groups aimed at improving our campus. Your feedback and support are essential to our continued improvement.
As we approach the new school year, I would like to make you aware of some school happenings.

I know this is a hot topic. I’m going to ask that you trust and help us enforce our no cell phone policy during instructional time. Additional memos will be forthcoming. The expectation is that all cell phones are collected/put away at the beginning of class. If you need your child, please call the school and we will be sure to get the message to them as soon as possible.

We will host quarterly Heart to Heart sessions with Hicks. This will give us an opportunity to build strong relationships with our families as well as be proactive. Additionally, this will give our families an opportunity to hear about school improvement directly from me.
