Dear Providence High Families,
Providence High School has a longstanding tradition of excellence. We are located in suburban South Charlotte and we serve more than 2,000 students and families. In addition to the main building, the campus includes a technical building, a greenhouse and a gym which houses a swimming pool. The grounds are comprised of a football stadium, baseball stadium, softball field, practice fields, tennis courts and cross country trails.
We have a rich tradition of excellence going back to the opening of Providence High in August 1989. The academic program at Providence is consistently ranked among the best in the state and we are a National Blue Ribbon School, the highest recognition available to schools. Our students consistently have the highest average SAT and ACT scores in the Charlotte region. Our Advanced Placement (AP) enrollment is high and our AP exam pass rate is the highest in CMS. In all, we offer 31 AP courses.
Providence High School offers a strong college-preparatory curriculum designed to provide our graduates with the credentials for admission into competitive colleges and universities. We want our graduates to be attractive to the best colleges and universities – and they are.
Before coming here, I was the principal at Jay M. Robinson Middle. I was a middle school principal for more than 12 years and that experience helps me to understand each student’s journey to high school. I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill, extended my studies at UNC Charlotte and received my doctorate from Wingate University. Both of my children have attended Providence.
As principal of Providence High School as well as a Providence parent, I am committed to seeing every student succeed. That means having every student graduate ready for the next step – college, career or the military. I believe that all students can achieve and I work to make that happen at Providence. We have a place for every student here and we work to make Providence a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. We’re a large comprehensive high school but we strive to make the environment feel welcoming for our diverse group of students.
I look forward to working with you and your students. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have issues or concerns: tracey.harrill@cms.k12.nc.us or 980-343-5390.
Thank you for choosing Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Dr. Tracey Harrill, Principal
