Seniors!

Cap & Gown during pick up is in Student Services on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Below is the presentation that we reviewed at our graduation meeting on May 1st. It's crucial you and your family set aside time to review this information so that we have a smooth end-of-year.

We have 129 seniors who are at risk of not graduating due to incomplete credit recovery courses, failing quarter 4 grades, or incomplete CPR. Let's lift up these students and finish strong!

Graduation Rehearsal
CMS has set our graduation rehearsal for June 4th at the Bojangles Coliseum from 5:00pm-7:30pm. Attendance is required at rehearsal in order to participate in the graduation ceremony June 10th at 7:00pm! Please adjust your work schedule and do not plan college visits/orientations on this date. Also, if you have any unpaid financial obligations, you will not be allowed to participate in the rehearsal. Seniors have received financial obligation notices throughout the school year and will continue to receive these notices through the end of May.

End of Year Testing

AP Exams

AP Exams will be in person, on campus. AP exams are slated for May 6-17th. We will have morning and afternoon exams. Students should be on campus 30 minutes prior to the exam time (7:30 and 11:30 arrival) with pencils, a calculator (if needed), and a beverage/snack. All personal items need to be in a clear bag. Locations will be posted outside B204 and outside of the media center.

STAMP/World Languages

World Languages Levels 1 & 2 EOY finals (NCVPS students DO NOT do STAMP testing). French and Spanish 1 & 2 will administer the STAMP test to all students enrolled (does not include NCVPS students) Part 1: May 1-3 & Part 2: May 28-30. Your teachers will discuss the details and logistics with their students regarding this two-part exam. It will be administered via CMS Chromebooks, and is done in-person. Makeup testing for STAMP students will be given 5/31 or 6/7. These make up a test grade AND final exam grade, which is 20% of the overall grade. Seniors must finish by 5/24! Seniors will do Part 2 in B204 on 5/24.

Semester 2 Finals – EOCs & Teacher-made

This year, all end-of-year exams will take place during the last week of school, June 3-7. Because Mallard Creek is not separating teacher-made finals and End-of-Course testing sessions, our testing environment must be uninterrupted and meet state required compliance.

On all exam days, all students must remain in their exam location until the school-wide testing session is over. There will be no early release passes during exam week. All students will be dismissed between 12:15pm-12:30pm on exam days. Students must bring their fully charged school-issued Chromebook to take their EOC or CTE State exam. They may also be needed for teacher-made exams.  We do not have extra Chromebooks, extra chargers, or enough outlets for all students to charge their device while testing.

These exams are required to be given on campus and count as 20% of the final grade. Students must arrive by 7:15 or risk missing their final and taking it on the make-up day; We will dismiss at 12:30pm each day. Breakfast and lunch will be served for free to those who want them. Most students will test in their classroom, but some will be testing in alternate locations for EOCs/CTEs.  If you are in an EOC or CTE tested class, please check your student email for details on those exams. Cell phones, smartwatches, fitness trackers are prohibited at all testing desks/stations.

Monday, 6/3 – 1st Block exams

Tuesday, 6/4 – 2nd block exams

Wednesday, 6/5 – 3rd block exams

Thursday, 6/6 – 4th block exams

Friday, 6/7 – Last day of school, make-up exams

Final Exam Exemption

At the start of the 2023-2024 school year, CMS updated the CMS Grading Plan that included the exemption of a high school final exam for courses that do not have a state-required or EOC assessment if a student met the criteria identified below before the beginning of the exam window:

  • Students with a grade of an ‘A’ (90%) or above and no more than 3 absences.

  • Students with a grade of a ‘B’ (80%) or above with no more than 1 absence.

  • Students would have the option to take the final exam to improve their grade rather than the exemption.  If a student chooses to take the exam, CMS grading practices are followed, and the exam counts for 20% of the student’s final grade.   Otherwise, the final grade for the course is calculated as follows: 50% quarter 1 + 50% of quarter 2.  The final exam grade in PowerSchool will be noted with an ‘EX’ flag  for those who have been granted an exemption.

  • Students who participate and complete Advanced Placement exams may choose to take the teacher-made final to include in their final grade for the class.

Parents are encouraged to review their child’s current progress in PowerSchool and can see if their child is potentially eligible for the exemption by reviewing the grade in the ‘F1’ column as well as reviewing the number of absences accumulated during the semester.  For students that have a significant undue hardship with attendance due to a medical concern, the principal may exempt the student from participating in a non-EOC/state required final exam pending the review of medical documentation through a Medical Hardship and if the student has met the academic criteria.  Medical Hardship requests (must be a physicians note on that medical office's letterhead) must be submitted no later than May 24, 2024.
