Say What? Talking to Kids about Challenging Topics
In our conversation on September 8th with Ailen Arreaza, she offered the following guiding principles, used by her organization ParentsTogether, for having challenging conversations with our children.
1. Don't be afraid to have a conversation.
2. Start from a place of curiosity.
3. Kids should feel safe, loved, and connected to you.
4. Tell the truth, in simple terms. Don't be afraid to say "I don't know."
5. Bring hope and light to wrap up the conversation.
