Multilingual Learners
-
Welcome new students and returning students! Each ELL (ESL) student is placed in classes determined by their English proficiency level (newcomer, 1,2,3,4,5,6, monitored). Students new to this country or level 1 will have more ESL classes until their English proficiency increases. Participation in the ELL program will not delay or prevent an ELL student from graduating on time.
The overall Course Objectives for all levels of English are:
- To develop note-taking, listening, organizational, and other necessary skills.
- To sharpen grammar, punctuation, and usage skills.
- To develop confidence as a reader and a writer.
- To create polished written works through pre-writing, drafting, revising, and editing.
- To increase understanding and enjoyment of literature.
- To prepare for future courses and assessments.
During the 2018-2019 school year, there were 73 ELL students at Providence High School from 25 different countries and with 18 different native languages spoken.
-
**All students meet with their designated counselor to review and discuss course requests.
